Storyboard

I have hand-drawn some storyboards that will provide a rough ideas of what shots I will need when I film my music video.

Initial Song Ideas

For my music video, I know I want to chose a song that has the genre of acoustic and/or indie.

Here are my initial song ideas ...

Lana Del Rey = Video Games

Lyrics:
Swinging in the backyard
Pull up in your fast car
Whistling my name

Open up a beer
And you say get over here
And play a video game

I'm in his favorite sun dress
Watching me get undressed
Take that body downtown

I say you the bestest
Lean in for a big kiss
Put his favorite perfume on

Go play a video game

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby now you do

Singing in the old bars
Swinging with the old stars
Living for the fame

Kissing in the blue dark
Playing pool and wild darts
Video games

He holds me in his big arms
Drunk and I am seeing stars
This is all I think of

Watching all our friends fall
In and out of Old Paul's
This is my idea of fun
Playing video games

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby now you do

(Now you do)

It's you, it's you, it's all for you
Everything I do
I tell you all the time
Heaven is a place on earth with you
Tell me all the things you want to do
I heard that you like the bad girls
Honey, is that true?
It's better than I ever even knew
They say that the world was built for two
Only worth living if somebody is loving you
Baby now you do

Lissie = When I'm Alone

Lyrics:
I turned my back you were gone in a flash like you always do, you always go off somewhere else. And when the phone rang and I thought it was you and I sprung like a kid who just got out of school but its almost, always never you, never you. I scream like child, my insides when woah

And when I'm alone with you, you make me feel and you make me feel.
When I'm alone with you, you are the one and you are the one.

And when I reach out and I only got air and it killed me to think that you never did care and it's hopeless you always run off somewhere else and I throw in a tantrum. Why are you such a battle?

And when I'm alone with you, you make me feel and you make me feel.
When I'm alone with you, you are the one and you are the one.

And when I'm alone with you, you make me feel and you make me feel.
When I'm alone with you, you are the one and you are the one.

Remind me of home when you're around me. The next time you leave don't go without me. No, don't go. N-no. Yeah!

Cuz you make me feel, you make me feel, that you are the one, you are the one.
And when I'm alone with you, you make me feel and you make me feel. Yeah when I'm alone with you you are the one and you are the one.

Oh, oh, owoah. Oh yeah.
oh oh, uh uh, oh oh, uh uh, oh oh, uh oh,
oh oh, uh uh, oh oh, uh uh, oh oh, uh oh,
oh oh, o o, oh oh, o o, oh oh, ohoooo, oh ay
And when I'm alone with you, you make me feel and you make me feel.

I have chosen 'When I'm Alone' by Lissie as I like the upbeat quality of the song. In addition, I think my chosen actress will be able to adapt to Lissie's quirky and indie style.

Costumes/Props

Costumes:

This is taken from Taylor Swift's "Mine" music video. I really like what she is wearing as it is very simple and elegant, but most of all fits the genre of music. It is very boho and girly so fits well with her personality.

I have made some outfits for my singer on a website called Polyvore. I feel these outfits fit well with my genre of music that I have chosen.
Dress = Topshop
 Denim Jacket = Warehouse
 Shoes = my-wardrobe.com
Bracelets = Debenhams
Hat = Topshop
Sunglasses = Jack Wills
Lipstick= House Of Fraser
Nail Varnish = Sephora by Opi

Dress = Rebecca Taylor
Cardigan = Karen Millen
Shoes = Asos
Satchel = Topshop
Bracelets = maxandchloe.com
Lipgloss = Nars

This is the chosen outfit ...
I chose this outfit because it is similar to those seen in existing acoustic and indie music videos. The dress is quite girly, so I added a denim jacket and bangles to make it a bit different.

Props:

For props, I will be using a guitar as it fits well with the conventions of an acoustic/indie music video.

Locations

After researching acoustic/indie music videos, I have decided to use two different locations. The shots I want to include in my music video, need to be very natural and typically what you would see in a acoustic/indie music video, so I am filming at St. Catherine's breakwater and also St. Catherine's woods.

St. Catherine's breakwater:

St. Catherine's woods:

I have am also doing a bit of filming at St. Ouens for photos and additional shots, in order to add variety to my music video.

Here's is a video of my locations. I edited this footage on Final Cut Pro, and also I put leaders and light leaks over the top, by decreasing the opacity. This was a experiment as I know it is commonly used in acoustic/indie music videos, and I did this in order to be ready for when I am editing the final music video.

Possible actor/actress

This is Lauren, and I have chosen her to audition for my music video because her image can be adapted to many genres of music, especially acoustic or indie. She is a confident and fun person, feels comfortable in front of the camera and has had experience modelling.

Here is Lauren's audition, where she just mimed singing to the song and I got to see how she would fit into the conventions of the genre...

Ellie Goulding - Digipak & Poster example

This is a digipak for Ellie Goulding's album 'The Writer'. I have used photos of this singer that relates to her calm, natural and fun personality. There is a similarity between this digipak and the previous two, because I want to replicate something similar to my final digipak. The CD disc (picture 1) is a photo of Ellie Goulding with another image of poppy layered on top, I did this to give it a rustic look. Then I added text of the name of the singer and album. The inside of the CD booklet (picture 2) is a photo of the singer in the studio. The back of the CD (picture 3), is a natural image of the singer. I have then added the names of the songs, and used two different fonts which is used in other singers albums. I then added copyright logo, music company logo and barcode. The front of the digipak (picture 4) is another image of Ellie Goulding, with a flower image layered on top in the corner. I then also used the same text as the CD disc.

This is the poster I have made for Ellie Goulding's album, 'The Writer'. I have used a photo taken in a natural surrounding, which reflects the conventions of the genre. In addition, I have included her logo, info about the album, the front of the digipak, hmv logo, copyright logo and music company logo.

Lucy Rose - Digipak & Poster example

This is a digipak for Lucy Rose debut album. I have used photos of this singer that clearly relate to her genre of music, which is indie/acoustic. These genre of music is similar to Taylor Swift, so there is a similarity between these two digipaks which I have made. The CD disc (picture 1) is an image of tea-stained paper and a small logo which is seen on Lucy Rose products. The inside of the CD booklet (picture 2) is a natural photo of the singer, also reflecting her childlike and playful behaviour as she sits in a field. I have blended this photo with an flower print, this was done with decreasing the transparency and layering it on top of the photo of Lucy Rose. For the back of the CD cover (picture 3) I have again layered two images, one of the singer and the other of natural scenery. I then added the song names and used different style fonts as I have seen this on indie CD's. To achieve a professional look, I added copyright logo, music production logo and barcode. The front of the digipak (picture 4) is another image of Lucy Rose. I have layered a tea-stained paper on top then decreased the transparency to give it a vintage feel. Then I added a vintage flower image and text for the name of the singer to finish it off.

This is a poster for Lucy Rose's album. I have used a photo of the singer performing live. Then I have layered a flower picture, which links to her typical conventions. I have added the singers logo for her name, which is also seen on the front of CD cover. I also have included album info and reviews. In order to make this poster look professional, I have included the front of the digipak and hmv/copyright/music production company logos.

Taylor Swift - Digipak & Poster example

This is a practise digipak for Taylor Swift's album called 'Fearless'. I have used photos of the singer that are natural and folk-like. This digipak contrasts against the Marina and the diamonds one I previously did, but I know know this is the digipak I want to make along with my music video. The CD disc (picture 1) shows an image of the guitar, which is famous as it features in her music videos and live performances. The inside of the CD booklet (picture 2) is a very natural picture as the colours used are neutral. I have layered two photos on top of each other to achieve the effect I desired. For the back of the cover (picture 3) I have layered two images again in order to gain the effect needed as before the image was too heavy and did not fit with the rest of the digipak. I have also included the barcode and copyright logo to make it look more professional. For the front cover (picture 4), I have layered three pictures on top of each other then decreased the transparency. Then I used a feather gradient, which noise effect to blur out edges to make it more professional. Then I added text for the name of the singer and album, which is the official text for Taylor Swift so fits well with her genre.

This is a poster for Taylor Swift's album, Fearless. I have used two pictures, one of the singer in a natural environment and the other of swirls. I have then blended the two pictures together by decreasing the transparency and using a feather gradient on the sides. Also, I have used the same text which I used on the digipak to show the name of the singer and the album, as well as album info and reviews. In order to make this poster look professional, I have included the front of the digipak and hmv/copyright/music production company logos.

Marina and the diamonds - Digipak & Poster

I have been using InDesign to make practise digipaks and posters for the genre of music I am doing for my music video.

This is a practise digipak for Marina and the Diamond's album called 'The Family Jewels'. I have used photos of the singer that have abstract elements to them. The CD disc (picture 1) uses lots of colours that represent the reflecting colours of a diamond. For the inside CD booklet (picture 2), I have layered two pictures in order to achieve the effect I want, I used a picture of the singer covered in glitter and a closeup of the singer holding a diamond then used the gradient feather tool to blur the two images together. In addition, I have also added text, which represents the personality of the singer, who is rebellious and edgy. For the back of the cover (picture 3), I have blurred to images again. The first image is abstract diamonds and the second is a kaleidoscope of Marina. I have then used the same text as the disc then highlighted it to make it stand out. Also, I have added a barcode, music company logo and copyright info to make it look more professional. For the front cover (picture 4), I have layered three pictures on top of each other then decreased the transparency. Then I used a feather gradient, which noise effect to blur out edges to make it more professional. Then I added text for the name of the band and album, as well as a picture of diamonds, which has been a continuing theme throughout the digipak.

This is the poster that matches the digipak seen above. This is a typical poster seen in HMV. I have included in the HMV logo, Music production company logo and copyright logo. Also, I have put the front cover of the digipak on the poster. On the poster, I have used the font to show continuity.
